“When time is short and resources are squeezed, it is vital that schools are choosing the options that have been tested and demonstrated positive outcomes in the past, to stack the odds that they will produce similar benefits again.”
Dr Jo Casebourne, Early Intervention Foundation Chief Executive.
Switch Midlands is committed to supporting vulnerable young people in schools. To achieve this we believe that cost-effective, targeted early interventions are vital and we have several options available to referring organisations.
We offer outreach support into schools via our Switch Coaches, who will visit schools to work directly with individual pupils, small groups and their families. Outreach can be offered both in and out of the classroom to help you identify causal factors of behaviour and attendance issues.
Our input is intended as early intervention and provides base-line measures of social and emotional well-being. Through our initial assessments you will be demonstrating the first-steps in the gathering of information for a graduated response and can help you decide whether more significant and longer-term interventions are appropriate. This can all be achieved whilst also allowing for the voice of the parent and child to be included in any future decision making.
The beauty of our approach is that it does not just stop once a programme of work is completed with a pupil, or group of pupils. It is designed to reward and develop them even further by giving an opportunity to become ambassadors for behaviour, personal development and wellbeing.
After receiving support from a Switch Coach, pupils can then work towards an award in peer mentoring and become Switch Ambassadors. This process will mean a culture of positivity and good conduct cascades throughout your whole school.
